Kyra is a sophomore writing major with a minor in audio and is ready to take the world by storm. She is passionate about music and sharing her talent with others. At only three years old Kyra picked up the violin and has since picked up other instruments to learn and create new sounds. She likes to tell stories through her music and gets inspiration from artist such as Grimes, Janelle Monae, SZA, The Beatles, and Nirvana to name a few.

“Music means everything to me. My life wouldn't be the same without it. “

Believing that music is the universal language and the cure to all troubles Kyra uses her songwriting skills to let the world know what she has lived. Although she says songwriting can be surprising, it’s rewarding. It allows her to express herself and understand her innermost thoughts and feelings. For Kyra, storytelling through her songwriting allows her to paint the image and story she is trying to tell. When she puts music to lyrics she has written it gives her words purpose with context and power.

“When I began creating my own music it became an outlet for me to get those negative feelings out and make them into something tangible, something I could listen to, something that could help me process and repair what felt broken.”

Last summer Kyra wrote and produced her EP album “Summer Nights”, a perfect example of creating stories of what she’s experienced. The album because her time capsule.

“I listen to the songs I wrote and am transported right back to that moment. I go back to Room 217, my closest friend tells me that she loves dancing in the rain. I am flooded back with memories and I hear and feel everything I felt all over again.”

She’s amazed that mixing sounds together could be so impactful and full of emotion. Kyra describes the song “The Yellow Jacket” by Shaun Martin as the most joyous, warm and uplifting song she’s ever heard.

After performing last year at the One World Concert that Ithaca College hosts annually Shanel reached out to Kyra and shared her ideas for putting together a record label. Since then she has been on board working with the company. She’s grateful that CollegeTown Records gives her the tools to be a better artist and achieve her future endeavors by pushing her out of her comfort zone and exposing her to new ideas.
